And, it Makes or Breaks Your Video Too

Music sets the mood and tone of a video. Most content makers know this, however they don't always know how much trouble using unlicensed music can cause. Some people have had to appear in court for using popular music with out going thought the proper steps to secure permission including paying big fees.

Recently YouTube has announced they have made 150 free music tracks available to any video creator that wants to use them. The Audio Library, available now, gives any YouTube creator the choice of 150 completely free instrumental tracks to choose from, and  they're not just for use in YouTube videos. You'll find a link in your Video Manager tool box that gives you access to the free tracks and the ability to sort by duration, genre, mood and instrument. Any of these can be downloaded as an MP3 file.

No copyright infringement, no more violating TOS, or searching for production music that won't break the budget. This is going to be a great help to DIYers

YouTube quietly announced a big change to the site’s search engine that will place grater emphasis on the time users spend watching videos. The intent, of this is for content that viewers spend more time watching (as in seconds and minutes) will be given greater authority in YouTube search, and would rank higher as a result.

After my video is done, then what?

I've recently returned from a conference, where I spoke about the steps involved in making a good web video. I met many interested, good, people. Some people thought only a "viral video" to be a successful video. Others wanted to know the details and mechanics of how to film and edit. And, one of the attendees asked if it was a good ideas to use social media to promote the video. YES, YES, YES!

So that is what this article is about. What to do with the video once it is done. Of course, you will likely host it on Youtube.com to get the Google search benefits. And you'll want to share it on other social sites as well. There is a distinct benefit in using the YT embed code and share links when telling the world about your new video. Share it on Facebook, "pin it", announce it on Linkedin, google+ it, and tweet about it, you get the idea the more exposure the better. Also, as more views accumulate on your YT hosted video, YT sees it as a popular video, and recommends it more frequently.

Remember to upload your video with a good description, around ten relevant keywords, and don't forget to include your website URL and/or your brick and mortar locale and phone number.

Till next time...

Ubber Move By Google

Online marketers and website developers often shutter to think about what the fallout could be from a Google update.  The last couple have been great for the "little guys". Though always controversial for some businesses, the intent of the update is to improve search results for the user and I trust that everyone can agree, is a good thing.

Now Google has made video SEO less complicated if you are embedding videos from Youtube.com, which make sense since it is a google company!  There is still care needed in posting your videos in a way that optimizes search-ability and having your website tags correct, (which is something we take care of for our clients) but gone are the days of needing a video site-map for your embedded Youtube hosted videos.

As soon as a potential customer visits your site, it’s crucial that they feel that they can connect with you and trust you. It used to be that a nice looking photo would bring a personal touch to advertising.  A picture is still good, but video done the right way can be much more powerful.  With video, entrepreneurs can convey many things, such as expertise, confidence, warmth and other attributes about themselves and their business.  There are a number of ways to increase the trust factor such as making sure that your contact information is prominent and easy to find.

There are over two and a half million websites on the web.  So it isn't always easy to stand out from the crowd.  Appearing in your company's promotional or educational video makes it unique, because there is only one you!  Your website should be free from grammatical and spelling errors. Your site should have the look and feel of a well-established and successful company. Your video should have good production value.

Research suggests that trust must be established for a prospect to either give you their information or make a purchase.  So you see that the effort and modest expense of a good quality video can pay for itself.

Everybody's using YouTube but not everyone is using it right.

Do you realize that a good video on YouTube.com can help your web site's search engine rank? With a good title, description and the right, relevant keywords a web video can help optimize your site for google.com.

Once you have a video uploaded it is a good idea to promote it. Share it with friends family and your loyal customers.  If they can comment and rate it even better.  YouTube is a social site, so put in the time to reply to some of the comments, and make friends.  Some people will subscribe to your channel and you can selectively subscribe to other users channels.  You become part of the "community" that way.  Use video on your website home page. and if you have several videos you can add a gallery or a page dedicated to them... the search engines like that.

Here are some basics to get you started. Name your channel something that is relatable to your business not necessarily your business's name. Write a description (business name can go here) and include a link to your site.  Even if your video isn't ready to be uploaded start watching and commenting on videos... you might made some "friends".

Some hiring Q&A

8/9/2011

Q.What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A.You want someone who will listen, has experience in the medium you want to use (such as web video verses television) and knows how to market and distribute the finished work.

Q.If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A.Customers need to know who holds the rights video before signing a contract. Frequently, creative works are considered property of the artist. So, if you hire a company to produce a video for your company, you may not have the right to distribute it or use it as you wish without paying additional fees to the producer.

Q.What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?
A.What inspired you to do this work? This production company was inspired by real life events. I once received a phone call from a company that promised me more business and also promised to increase my search engine rankings. Part of the $100/month package was a video presence on youtube.com. I asked the caller to show me their work and I was not impressed. Of course I knew that hosting a video on youtube.com is free of charge, since I had been directing and producing short videos for fun for several years. This experience encouraged me to learn about how to use video for PR and marketing.
